1930's Oak Door to long for frame

Can't necessarily answer your question, but I'd be very carful about chip out as you cut. If you have a big enough table saw I'd use that instead of a jig saw, or a circular saw with a sharp blade.

Also, would this be a good time to break out the biscuit joiner?

Replacing stair treads, and maybe risers.

Ok, so I've run into a problem, there is a landing near the top of the stairs it is roughly 36"x33". It is currently covered with what appears to be oak. The oak isn't necessarily togune and groove but has a Z like profile. It's not in all that great of shape. My thought is to replace it. I'm...

Thanks for all the info, everything went well yesterday. However nothing was square so I'll be puttying and chaulking a bit. Still need to paint the risers and molding.

Greetings, this weekend my wife and I are taking Friday off to tackle this project. First some background: we have a 1929 story and a half home and from everything we can tell the upstairs (or half story) was refinished or finished in the 1960s, although there are radiators upstairs tied into...

    Layers of flooring

Greetings! my wife and I are planning to remodel our kitchen. Our house is a 1929 1.5 story Tudor-style in South Minneapolis, Minnesota. We haven't decided what flooring we are going to go with but we are considering bamboo or a hardwood. My question is; how do I deal with the potential...

    What could be behind this?

Our house is a 1929 tudor in south Minneapolis, above the mantle was a mirror that we just removed, the mirror was dated on the back 1960. This backing is heavy duty cardboard. What could be underneath this?

    Steam heat - TRV assembly

Hello, I have a one pipe steam heat system and our bedroom radiator gets really hot at night, so I've decided to replace the air vent with a thermostatic radiator vent. I bought the parts from pec supply. My question is does this assembly look correct? I used Teflon tape on all joints except the...

Unfinished space - plans to finish?

I get what you're saying, that makes a lot of sense. When you say the wall with the window would be no problem, are you talking about installing the window or just the fact that it would be easy to insulate and add drywall? Thanks!
