You could use pea gravel without worrying about it getting kicked out as long as you build some sort of retaining wall. You could make it out of any number of things and you can probably make it look pretty good.

U-Haul sells boxes. I don't remember what sizes they are, but I think it was something with similar design. I would check them out.

You might be able to take a sample or picture of the tile to a tile company and ask them if they have anything similar. They will also be able to help you decide on another color if you need to.

There are plenty of applications for this sort of thing. Anything that is cheap and needs labelled is a good option for the paint. Could make some cool containers for cooking ingredients.

I have used it and it seems to work pretty well. I am not sure it is really worth it though. Give it a try and see what you think.
