Has the price of R22 just doubled?

In January the EPA mandated a 45% reduction in future production of R-22 in line with the scheduled phase-out. Prices immediately doubled nationwide. Sad to see it happen because I think 22 kicks all over 410a. we are seeing so many leaks in coils and pressure problems becuause it...

    Lennox Compressor wont turn on

that's good advice back in the day we were told to hawk those like crazy. I always hated it because it was a way to generate more service calls for the company. Now I just teach people how to check their condensate drains themselves and clean them out. BTW if that float valve closes it shuts...

    Air handler will not blow

along with that great advice I would rule out the thermostat and low voltage wiring issues. 1. pull the thermostat cover off of the wall. touch red to green wires together. does the blower motor come on at all?? does it stay on if you put a wire nut on them? if so than you have a...

    Lennox Compressor wont turn on

There are a lot of DIY friendly A/C fixes and there are some that just flat out need a professional. At least you wont ever have that problem again and have to pay through the nose!! I got into this business after my parents were taken by some dirtbag A/C techs. Once I got into the trade I...

Is it possible to inspect ducting for holes from inside? Or is this a sci-fi realm?

this door trick is a useful way I find to narrow the leak down to a return or supply line. If there are multiple leaks the only real way is to get up close and look. good luck

    new HVAC :air quality problems

If you are just starting to notice the dust and insulation in the home I would definately rule out a duct leak. Since the unit is new there is a possiblity that a leak developed during installation or right after, especially if there is no history of the problem. If you can rule that out...

Remove blower motor on Convertible Trane (American Standard) Air handler

The motor will probably work ok for awhile. Just curious why you dont replace it with an actual blower motor? The two motors are cooled differently via airflow. Blower motors have openings on the side as the air is pulled across them into the squirrel cage and condenser fan motors air is...

Remove blower motor on Convertible Trane (American Standard) Air handler

its not the metal grinding from the squirl cage fan is it? ive heard a lot of godawful and that is definately one you dont forget. once the blower motor gets up to speed maybe the inner squirl cage is touching the housing. If the mounting screws (and housing) for the blower motor is/are...

After pulling power to the air handler discharge the run capacitor for the blower motor. Just use and insulated screwdriver and touch both terminals WHILE HOLDING INSULATED HANDLE. TAKE PICS OF EVERYTHING. I still do this on wiring setups to this day Note wiring setup you can draw it...

So how bout the leak? Did it all blow out at the compressor when the wire set blew out. that is some serious meltage on the compressor housing. I have seen hard start kits hooked up to locked up compressors and blow that seal clean off with the gas and oil all over the place. It dosent look...

Heat Pump Aux. heat running too often.

This is where things get fun. I have seen a ton of this crap by home warranty companies..... here are a few questions to ponder aloud with the home warranty co. 1. They 'covered' the unit with no problem including taking your premiums up until now? 2.What specifically is 'not covered' by...

Heat Pump Aux. heat running too often.

yes there is some dye type stuff you can dump in and look for. If it is leaking that much than it shouldnt take anyone too long to find it out. Dump whats left of the charge and fill it with nitrogen and you'll probably hear it hiss from the can. MAJOR TIP re home warranties I did some...

Heat Pump Aux. heat running too often.

If the tech ohmed out the compressor when it was hot it would show an open (IP) or internal protection that it has to stop it from burning up. Often like DIY Mike says many compressors are condemed for stuff like that. When the compressor cooled down it would operate again. The freon (and the...
