bella cera hand scraped hardwood flooring

Has anyone had a good or bad experience with hand scraped oak hardwood flooring? This particular brand is called Bella Cera. It is I believe privately labeled for Buddy's Carpet here in Dayton, OH. I am having a difficult time finding any consumer ratings on the product because of the unique...

cutting a hole for an electrical outlet

Here is how it turned out. I drilled large pilot holes and used my jig saw to cut out the hole. I also added felt pads to the bottom of the saw to keep from scratching the surface of the cabinet. The electrical is attached as the old box was - metal clad wire with hold-on straps to keep it...

    vacuum cleaners

I too like Consumer Reports. I even had a subscription for several years. But guess what? If you go online, you have to pay extra to use the online version! What a rip!

    vacuum cleaners

Looking at a new vacuum cleaner. Need it to be light weight, maneuver well, and pick up well off of dense carpet. Trying to keep it under 22 pounds. Have looked at Hoover and Eureka under $200. I have also heard the Oreck sweeper is also really good but have not gone to that store yet...

any kitchen faucet brands to avoid?

We are looking for single hole faucets at Lowes or Home Depot and are wondering if there are any brands to avoid. So far we have seen Price Pfister, Moen, Kohler, and Delta faucets that match our needs. All of these models have a spray nozzle that pulls out and a single handle for controlling...

    is there hope?

I also decided to go with Shark Bite connectors to hook all my supply lines back up. I had a devil of a time soldering a cap on the supply lines when removing the old sink base. It took forever to get the water to turned off all the way. I even have a brand new gate valve put in last year...

    is there hope?

I decided to just be really careful cutting out the back of the sink base and leave the plumbing the way it is. I already have so many irons in the fire that I don't need one more job. The cuts look OK, even to my wife! Let's face it; if she approves, it must be OK. The project is really...

    is there hope?

I have removed all the cabinets from the kitchen and had to make some pretty serious cuts to get the sink base out. I have the dry wall up and painted. All the hanging cupboards are in place. I have the corner base cabinet in place and am ready to place the sink base. However, I don't...

    testing a 4 way switch

I moved wires last night but always kept the red wires at the top and the black wires on the bottom. That is the way the old switch was wired. The light works, but does not work correctly when flipping the other 3 way switches. For example, when I sit at the 4 way and operate the foyer light...

How is island attached to floor

I am on a slab, but I did find some nails in the kick board. They must be tied into a block that is glued or screwed into the floor. I will try to drive them into the block with a nail set and pry the cabinets off the block this afternoon. I'll let you know how well it comes up.

    testing a 4 way switch

I am putting up new cabinets and in the process moved a 4 way switch and broke it while removing the wires. I bought a new one. Now I think I may have put a cabinet screw through the wiring leading to the 4 way or have it hooked up wrong. I would like to test the circuit but do not have any...

    header removal in ketchen

I put on the sticky kind of nylon mesh and mudded in the cracks really well. I was careful to push the joint compound away from me so as not to leave too big a reveal where it will be seen. ThenI feathered it best I could. Tomorrow night I am getting ready to stomp the ceiling. I have read...

    header removal in ketchen

Well, the drywall man stood us up, so the wife called him. He gave us a bunch of lame excuses, and she fired him. So, last night we were putting up the drywall ourselves. Hopefully we will be able to match the stomping as well as the pros. The good news is we were able to get all the drywall...

    Printer

Mickmar, I'm a building tech in a 7-8 middle school where we have around 200 Dell computers, six HP 4100's, a 4600 color laser, and a couple of odd HP's lasers and Dell printers in the office. We also have four or five Epson 740's inkjets that still work. I say that to say this -- it's all...
