Want to track down problem with half of my old house wiring out

Without multiple pics, and the ongoing problems-you need to get a $1,500 home improvement loan and get a whole house rewire. SOLVE all these problems. I don't care what others say (Neal), its gonna get used at a higher capacity of amps overall. Whether its you or the next tenant...it needs to be...

Want to track down problem with half of my old house wiring out

I agree. Even if all was working, your setup is very old. Cartridge and glass fuses? Yuk. It's time to upgrade and get safe. Since its a little house, you could probably have whole house done for $1000-$1,500. That why you would have all of the problems and rising safety issues.

GFI Outlet / Seperate Light Switch - Light won't turn off!?

Guess I should live in Mass. Checked it out-if new install, then it is permissible-but not required. I just would not want to be on toilet or in shower and lights go out just b/c the GFCI tripped for some reason. To me, it's an inconvenience. I wire bathrooms where the home run goes to the...

tiling shower wall without cement board?

I'm not a tile guy but I did the same thing and I'm learning it was "wrong". I put Blue rock AND durarock, obviously I now have the same problem as you. However, my shower has been tiled already, I have a bigger gap on the outside edge that's too big for grout. That will look worse. Get a piece...

    LED Lights

Glad it's fixed but if wired right, a 12/3 (3 wire) could've been used instead of 2 12/2's (2-2 wires) and been legal. The 2-2 wires just uses more wire.

GFI Outlet / Seperate Light Switch - Light won't turn off!?

Put lights on load side, then they are slave to the gfci. So when it trips, its lights out.

    LED Lights

Ok. Yes I'm an electrical contractor and yes, I know the difference between series and parallel ( to whoever asked). Lights in general can be wired in series, however, can light housings nowadays usually come equipped with a termination block that automatically makes them wired in parallel. I...

    LED Lights

Joe, They can be wired in series. Your diagram shows you taking your line neutral to the last light. Why not wire it like normal?

Can I 3way cfls in series?

Are you telling him that's the only reason not to wire the cans in series? I can understand receptacles, but cans?
