A nice feature the new fill valves have ( Fluidmaster) is you can pull the "keeper" ring up in the middle of the valve tube and the top assembly just slides off ..... you don't need to disassemble the supply line. I don't bother to clean them anymore ........ for the $10. they cost I just slide...

Turn off the water ... flush the tank ..... I use a wet vac and now do it about once a month ( new well pump ) (It will settle eventually )

When I change toilets I'll be using a Fernco seal.
