Hi everyone, I just joined the forum and had a question about deck hardware. I'm rebuilding my deck, new footers and everything up. I've been reading about how corrosive the new acq pressure treatment is to galvanized metal, and how stainless straps, post bases, etc are suggested for wet environments. That would be great, except I can't find them anywhere. For my location, western Pennslyvania, the minimum recommended by simpson and others is zmax or some other triple galvanized coating.
I've been reading that a barrier membrane, like Grace Vycor Deck Protector can help by preventing the metal from coming in contact with the ACQ chemicals, but all of the articles i've found are older (2006-2008). Is this still a recommended practice, or are they finding that with the newer ACQ formulations and actual exposure rather than accelerated lab exposure that this is overkill?
Anyone?
