A friend of mine wants to have some sort of long venting to the right of the door where the drywall is missing but I thought the air flow under the door along with the open space within the furnace room would allow for plenty of airflow. She plans on keeping the door closed but is concerned about having enough airflow for proper operation of the furnace assuming the last piece of drywall is installed. In the pic there is no door but a door has been hung since the pic was taken.

Assuming, and you didn't say, that, 1ST, the installation was permitted, or, the fuel source of the appliance, gas fired appliances, ALL, are required to be provided with sufficient, from an uninterruptible source, combustion air.

It uses natural gas. There is about 3/4 to one inch of space under the door with it closed.

And a dropped rug or towel, could further restrict the required, UNINTERrUPTED, FROM AN EXTERNAL SOURCE, combustion air.

The information, regarding the required combustion air, is locally available.
