Hello,

Is the GFCI outlet wired the same as standard outlet? My contractor sent this guy that barely knows anything to install the last outlet.

Inspector came to inspect the building, mechanical, and electrical for this room addition. The GFCI outlet needed to be corrected. I used my Klein tools and it shows "Open Ground".

I might just pull it out and fix myself. I know the contractor ran a dedicated line for this outlet (I traced it to the single circuit). Don't know why he used a dedicated circuit. Maybe cause the outlet is outdoor? There is an outlet inside of the room on the same wall but ran on a different circuit.

Thanks,

No.

Refer to included photo. It is most likely on a separate 20A circuit to not overload an existing circuit.

EDIT-

If this is on an end of run circuit (there being no receptacles after the GFCI receptacle), the incoming power will go to LINE terminals. Nothing goes to LOAD terminals. Make sure you test the self-testing feature (new models test themselves) after install and that it is wired correctly (polarity).

The photo KULTULZ posted does not show the ground wire connected and that is what your tester is showing also. The bare copper wire or green is the wire the tester is not seeing and most likely why the inspector failed it. Connect it to the green screw.

Thanks guys. I bought a new outlet. The existing one that failed, the ground slot was badly designed. I spent 30 minutes and could not have a good contact.

I never notice the "Test" button on GFCI. When pressed in, the outlet cuts off power (by designed probably).

That is the test, to make sure that happens.;)

You should test that button once a month or with an outlet that is seldom used test it each time you use it before you plug in.

My hot tub has 2 GFCI breakers out on the deck and there is a card to check off monthly I stuck on the cover. I tested them a couple times the first two months and then forgot about it. I looked the other day and she has been testing them and marking them off each month.
