Need to widen a vent hole in basement / foundation wall.

Worth a shot if I can find a new vent hood that'll fit under the soffit that doesn't have a length of duct pre-attached. I'm also trying to find a vent hood with a 3" pipe already on it, and they seem tough to find.

Need to widen a vent hole in basement / foundation wall.

If we go that route, how would you recommend we connect that piece to the hood outside and the dryer connector inside, both of which are 4"x4" rigid material? In all, I'd be down for doing that if it comes down to it. We had to go with a very specific hood+duct all fused into one. The duct on...

Need to widen a vent hole in basement / foundation wall.

Friend of mine just got a new place and the original dryer vent hole was cut to an unconventional size. Instead of 4" x 4" it's about 3.25" x 4", as seen here: We're not going to try a concrete hole saw, since it might travel too much and probably won't, at best, produce a clean whole. At...

Aluminum siding lifting away at bottom corner.

Given the age of the house/siding, I doubt the WRB here is anything fancy. The siding wasn't hanging off enough to clearly see what it was, but it wasn't something that stood out, like some of the Tyvek stuff with logos and colors. The more I think about it, I half wonder if some of it came out...

Thanks. If it makes any difference, I was thinking of the vertical gaps on the side overlaps, not along the bottom. Was just worried about how much water might go in there when we get the kind of crazy 'horizontal' blowing rain we're unfortunately enough to get during storm season. ⛈️

Would you recommend caulking any that have formed small gaps but otherwise have no detachment?

Looking back at the caulk I have, it's not 100% silicone. How do you feel about this: Was also up at the store getting other stuff, and they didn't have the Polyseamseal. Guy there recommended these 2:

Aluminum siding lifting away at bottom corner.

Thanks. The top part seems to be on very firm, so lifting the panel above to check doesn't feel possible without possible messing up the channel/groove, which some of those aforementioned YT video said will often permanently bend and never clip together again. Securing the bottom corner may be...

Aluminum siding lifting away at bottom corner.

My house was built between 1975-1980, and I am not sure how old this siding is. The previous owner was unable to give any information when I purchased nearly 8 years ago. The siding used to pop up from time to time, and I could just pop it back on and it would stay for months at a time. Last...

    Hello from the Midwest!

I've been a homeowner for roughly 8 years now, and I'm starting to move up from small, simple DIY repairs to the more involved things. I never got much experience or guidance with tools and construction as a kid, so I have a lot to make up for. Also interested in advice on how to find and...
