    Installing door without frame?

The swinging door opens both ways (in and out), and uses a special "hinge" mechanism that mounts on the floor (and the top jamb). You can get any slab or lighted door that will fit the entrance. You didn't mention whether you wanted the door there to simply hide looking through, or for weather...

Outdoor GFI tripping, wires have voltage

Thanks! Will do. I still have the "vintage" Sears analogue multimeter :)

Outdoor GFI tripping, wires have voltage

I figured the voltage was induced all right, and never noticed it before. The breaker box is full of dual breakers. Lots of circuits! This is a sub panel. This is a dedicated circuit to the GH. From the panel to the GFI (outdoor) receptacle, then on to the GH interior. I'm starting to...

    Possible Vent Problem

We've had some high winds, and that can actually cause some back-drafting of sewer gas. If it's not a mechanical vent problem the toilet ring could be the culprit even if it's not wet around the area. Water can go down, but gas can still escape a small void, esp. with the wind helping change...

    Removing silicone caulk

Move? I'm serious. You could try a razor blade to cut it out. I've done that with good results. Go slowly and use a nice sharp blade (like a fresh box cutter blade).

    Oak stair treads safety concern.

Is it feasible to bump out the risers to fit under the treads? If not, I'd redo this ASAP. Someone unfamiliar with this setup will kill themselves!

    hardwood floor refinishing questions

Agreed. Oil is best if you can stay off the floor long enough for it try dry. The look is 100X better than any water finish. Yes, it will stink. But only for several days. A 60-year old floor deserves an oil based finish! If you choose water because of timing, consider an oil stain to...

    Drywall - Power Sander

I redid several rooms and couldn't stand the thought of drywall dust everywhere. A good drywall pro doesn't need much sanding. But this is a DIY site :) so I figure I can admit I wanted a vacuum that could take the dust. Also, I had a good bit of ceiling work to do. I don't have the arms I...

    Laminate Flooring Shifting...

What laminate exactly? Are the boards buckling (lying like this: /\/\/\ instead of _______)? How did you fasten? Sleepers and staples? Any discoloring?

Outdoor GFI tripping, wires have voltage

I wired a detached greenhouse with one 120V and one 240V circuit, and all wires run though the same conduit. The conduit has one outlet mounted on the side of the house, with a GFI. The outlets inside the GH are protected by the house GFI. The outlets are for lights and a fan. The 240V line...
