    Hidden Fasteners vs Face Nailing?

The plugs are not threaded but from reading the instructions, the way the countersink and the plug work is a press fit using the seal of the screw and plug to keep they together. The screw looks more like a finish nail. Have a look...

    Hidden Fasteners vs Face Nailing?

I will be helping the Carpenter with the install and its not by the hour so I know he's not trying to screw me, no pun intended! I did see the Cortex are self tapping so we don’t need to pre-drill. I see the benefit in both and it looks like you have to use the cortex when picture framing...

    Hidden Fasteners vs Face Nailing?

Good point about missing plugs, I was wondering how good they stay in. Have you seen them come out a lot?

Flashing on top of a joist?

I have been reading that water can accumulate between composite/PVC decking and wood framing, the composite/PVC causes the water from drying fast and can rot joists faster. Would it be worth using a flashing tap on top of the joists? Should I use metal or rubber flashing? I saw that asphalt...

    Hidden Fasteners vs Face Nailing?

I am in the process of purchasing some Azek Decking, Now I have to figure out which way I am going to fasten them. So far I'm thinking of using either the cortex Hidden fastener system that is a face nail and plug or the CONCEALLoc fasteners that hook into the grooves of the decking. Does...

Hi Guys, I am in the process of building a deck and I have been looking around at PVC and composite decking options. I have narrowed down between Azek, Timber Teck and I could be talked into Fiberon. Does anyone have any gotchas or recomendations? The deck will be in direct sunlight so I...

Thermostat Wiring Carrier AC Split System

so I did a ton of research and I had it wired wrong. I found an image online that was my exact setup. The first thing I did was rewire the thermostat and AHU using the correct color wires for the type. Then I wired it per the included diagram and it works like a charm. Initially I just needed...

Thermostat Wiring Carrier AC Split System

I have a question about the wiring in my Central AC, I have a Nest thermostat and recently I had an issue during the recently cold weather we had. When we had the -10 degree week, my nest lost power. I found that my carrier condensor has a thermal cutoff where when it get too cold it cuts power...

    Woodturning

I am still learning to turn a bead and cove, I have been watching videos and using the skew a ton. With a ton of catches too, I destroyed a lot of good quality wood, then I started practising on 2x4s!

I have the JET JML-1014VS Mini Lathe, I am thinking I should have looked for a bigger one now that my projects seem to be growing but I couldn’t beat the price. I wish I could make some columns! How did you keep consistency for each one? Nothing I make even if it is supposed to be the...

    Woodturning

I agree on the clean up, wood shavings get everywhere! The worst is in my shoes and socks, what a pain in the ***! I got a small lathe off of craigslist pretty cheap. I'm still a rookie but I have made a ton of beer openers and handles. Just trying to learn the tools and the right way to use them.

Birds eating all of my grass seed!

What i ended up doing was after i seeded, i walked over the seeds to depress them into the soil. Then I thatched my yard and placed it over the seed to hide it somewhat. It worked like a charm, the birds stopped eating it that day, good luck and let us know how it goes!
