Neal; yes I've had nearly every wall opened up to studs at one time or another and have added fire breaks during that process. Bud; I believe the location of the streaking matches up with the holes in the insulating board, only thing separating cold outside air from warmer attic air is vinyl siding. thanks again to all you guys for your feedback. I feel this discussion was very helpful.

There should be no warm moist air in the attic so the fact that you only have vinyl there should make no difference and if it where any tighter your problems might be bigger.
