We recently purchased a second-hand LG DLEX4270 dryer complete with pedestal, thinking we were getting a sweet bargain on a fancy machine. Then we discovered that the lint filter was almost comically mis-designed, although the results sure weren't funny. It didn't fit the housing, causing it to protrude and catch and twist laundry. It also is far too narrow to make any kind of seal with the housing, which was completely open on the bottom and in the back. With no screen to filter the air bypassing the filter, most of the lint-ridden air passed right through to the interior of the machine where it accumulated an inch deep, along with copious amounts of hair and even a piece of candy wrapper. Hair had wrapped around the drum rollers and there was scorched lint residue in the heating element and exhaust duct. Epic fail! After thoroughly cleaning out the dryer, I went to work on the filter with a dremel-type rotary sanding tool to flatten the protruding edges, remove excess material and allow the filter to seat more or less flush with the housing. Then I used QuikSteel heat-resistant metallic epoxy (from an auto parts store) to attach screen door mesh to the housing to create a wrap-around filter around the open bottom and back of the housing. Problem solved. I plan to open up the dryer in a month or so to make sure there's no buildup inside as the screen door mesh is nowhere near as fine-gauge as the lint screen mesh, but I can see that it is catching lint bypassing the trap, so I think it's good to go.
