I would like to use top flange joist hangers on a main beam made of two 1 3/4" LVL beams Is it OK to nail or screw in the LVL beam in that direction? I don't know how strong the layers of LVL hold on together and am afraid of split the layers. Any suggestion?
Thanks

I don't think it is a problem, Never thought about it, but do it all the time when dressing beams out to wall size and engineers and building inspectors have never said anything.

Not a problem, except for the screws, unless they are made by the fastener company that makes the joist hangers. Never use screws no matter what Mr homes tells you.
