Hello. I need to prime several new steel columns before installing them in my crawl space as I convert it into a basement. What is the best type of paint to prime them with for maximum rust prevention? Also, what is the best painting method? The columns are basically bare metal right now with slight surface rusting that I should be able to sand off pretty easily.
I'm assuming that a brushed on coat of oil primer is the way to go, but I'm not very experienced at painting metal.
Thanks.
