    Kitchen Floor recommendation

I’m good with either one, I just know that the planks that snap together seem to be the rage with a lot of people these days. I am behind on my terminology. I did t realize linoleum was I longer a thing, but I was referring to the sheets. I have put the sheets down in the past and thought it...

    Kitchen Floor recommendation

I'm looking for recommendations for a kitchen between vinyl flooring that snaps together and linoleum. Keep in mind, it's just an old farm house that needs something new; it's not a high-end upgrade on a mansion. I've always been fine with linoleum. The one there now is probably pushing 30...

    Toilet issue

Thanks. I tried the coloring, and turns out it was the flapper. The toilet is an American Standard, and after doing a little research once I discovered the issue, I could replace a gasket instead of the entire flapper. It turns out that my barand of toilet has an issue with the gasket, and it...

    Toilet issue

My toilet is about two years old. In the past few weeks, I notice a quick hissing sound in the flush tank at times. Apparently, the fill-up is triggered and it is putting water back in the tank. The water level in the flush tank is not low at all when this happens. Any ideas what is going on...

    Toilet issue

I solved my issue. My septic tank was put in during the 60s. It’s about 25 feet from the house. I dug it up, and the line was clogged with roots where it empties into the tank. I cleaned it out best I could, and it’s working fine now. I now plan to use root treatment regularly.

    Toilet issue

For the past 3 days, my toilet almost overflows in the evening but no other time. I’m away at work for about 9 hours, but it flushes normally in the mornings and fine for the first few times when I get back home. At some point, I will flush, and it almost overflows but slowly returns to a...

    Air deflectors

I have noticed the burst of cool air, but it only lasts a couple of seconds, so I’m ok with that. I still believe it heats the living space more evenly in my house.

    Air deflectors

True. I lived in a house once where the registers were under the cabinets in the bathrooms, and a hole was cut on the bottom of the cabinet and a grill put over it. The air just trickled out until I managed to get a deflector on underneath the cabinet, which wasn’t easy. As you said, the air was...

    Smoke Detector Sensitivity.

Ionization may be more common some places, but all I see here is a large number of photoelectric types. You mention the smoldering fire that is most typical in home fires. Could you describe a smoldering fire? How is that different from fires the ionization types detect?

    Air deflectors

I agree, at least, it’s not blowing it far enough that it defeats the purpose of the register locations, but the small change does seem to make it more comfortable for me. I have one room that is 15’ wide, and when I’m sitting on the other side, I feel the warm air when it kicks on, and it seems...

    Smoke Detector Sensitivity.

I have a couple of battery-powered smoke detectors that have been up since the 1980s. One is about 12 feet from the oven, and it will occasionally set it off. I can also blow out a match underneath, and that sets them off. Some might call that sensitive, but it’s what I am accustomed to. A few...

    Air deflectors

I appreciate the lengthy explanation. It sounds like there is a perfect situation on paper, but that perfect situation rarely exists in reality. It can be altered by furniture placement, number of people, insulation, electronics, etc. I’m sure HVAC units are installed according to that perfect...

    Air deflectors

I have digital thermometers in every room. Today, I have my heat on 68, and with deflectors, every room reads 68. Without the deflectors, I assure you my front room would be 70, and my back room would be 66 or 67. With that, I assumed deflectors were better, so I decided to research and read...

    Air deflectors

Again, there are different opinions. The bottom line question is, “does it really make any noticeable difference?” I’ve tried both, and the only difference I see is that with deflectors in winter, I actually feel the air circulating, which I like, but I haven’t seen any difference in the bill...
