    Estimating Garage Remodel

I got three bids to have my shop built. It is just a 24' x 40' rectangle, with a bathroom, two roll-up doors, five windows and a man door. The estimates ranged from $25k to $35k for a fully finished outside and framed inside building, with the contractor handling all subs, etc. That's...

Who drew up your garage plans?

Precisely! This why I used tall skinny windows. I want some daylight and air circulation, but don't want to lose wall space for benches, cabinets, etc.

Who drew up your garage plans?

I did mine, but then it is just a rectangle with doors and windows. In my town, if you stay under 1000 sq. ft. you do not need engineered plans, so I went with 24'x40', because 24' trusses are cheaper than anything longer by a wide margin.

    Your input on my windows.

    First Aid Kit

I have a rag and some duct tape. That usually gets me by until I can get around to washing up and attending to the open wounds.

    Ceiling Mounted Heaters

I was looking at the Mr Heater gas forced air units, but after reading some reviews of radiant tube heaters, I plan to use one of those in my garage. Mr heater has some, and there is Rever-ba-ray, and Roberts-Gordon. All are using the same radiant tube technology.

Running a gas line to the garage

I am not sure where you reside, but most jurisdictions allow or require MDPE gas line buried at a minimum 18" now. Some still allow epoxy coated black pipe with sealed and taped joints.

    Garage Bathrooms

I have a shop/garage under construction on my property in Idaho, and our local city codes had no problem with a full bath inside it. I am putting in a 6' x 8' bath with sink, shitter, and a corner shower. I didn't want to have to walk back to the house, take off my shoes, and walk through the...
