I have two toilets, one is clogged. I have a cheap quality snake. I could get the snake all the way into the working toilet, no problem. On the clogged one, I can get it about half way in, but that does not unclog it.

I tried putting dish soap and hot tap water in, before putting the snake in too, and that also did not work.

I am reluctant to really just jam it in there - help please!

Maybe there is a large solid obstruction in the other toilet. You might want to buy a new wax ring, pull the toilet up, and check inside the trapway for solid objects like tennis balls or something that could be blocking it. I don't know if you have dogs or kids that would be dropping stuff in though. If the obstruction is not inside the toilet, it must be further down the pipe.

I got it, thank you! After letting the soap and hot water (plus vinegar) sit for several hours, and trying it several times, THEN I snaked it, and that worked.
I do have a dog, but she doesn't drop toys in the toilet. I'm so glad it did not have to go as far as removing the toilet!

Glad to hear you got it . wonder what it could have been? that hot water and vinegar softened it up enough for the snake to work this time.

It seemed to be the normal sort of waste that goes down a toilet. I don't know why it was so hard to get the snake in there this time. It's been a long time since I've had to snake it....maybe 2 years. Very relieved it worked.

If you have to snake it from time to time there is something else going on that is grabbing things as they go by. I am 70 and have never had a need to snake a toilet.;)

There could be an incorrect fitting somewhere. My own plumbing looks like an octopus and stuff gets caught up from time to time.
