Hey all. Need some advice on an old balloon framing home's joist that needs to be hammered in more into a stud. It has been sistered but the joist was out of the stud without realizing it when we were "finessing" it into place. I was thinking maybe some blocking on the opposite side to give the stud support before trying to muscle that old sistered joist in further?

Anyone know a good technique or tool that can muscle it in?
Maybe a bolt that can tighten them together? Thanks.

If I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, I think I would drill a hole, insert a length of ready rod with fender washers and nuts & draw them together. I'd be afraid of causing damage to whatever wall is below if I beat on it too much.

That sounds like a better idea. I was going to use a horizontal jack, blocking on a few studs behind it and slowing crank. But this idea sounds like the least likely to cause unintentional damage to the studs.

I have a large C-clamp I have used many times and also bar clamps. I have also screwed a piece of wood to the structure that is fixed at a slight angle and then made a wooden wedge to drive down forcing the other piece over. The suggestion of all All-thread rod and nuts is also good.

Those are the three main tricks I use.
