I’m working on an old house for my son and removed the carpet to expose the hardwood floor. The boards in the living has some damage, but it’s mostly in good shape. I’m wondering if I can use wood putty to path and then stain it / color it to match? I know it won’t be perfect, just looking for the best way to address.

The flooring also has some gaps between the boards (see second photo) towards the middle of the room. Should these remain as gaps or should I fill them in as well? 37F9DBDD-37C3-4EE3-B116-32077D249E1B.jpeg

Here’s the photo showing the damage. The first one uploaded appears to show where it was patched prior. Thanks. B747387D-E3B3-44AD-8563-E6D6520A6EC0.jpeg
