Help with gluing metal banding to formica countertop

Just found these messages! In case anyone is looking for this chrome banding, I found mine at Home Depot. I bought lengths of 1 1/2 inch and lengths of 1", each with a 1/4" lip. The wide flat band was glued to the top edge and the ribbed, narrower one was glued from the bottom. Used contact...

    pressure washer advice

Thanks, nealtw - I wouldn't have thought of doing that. The dilution ratio is not given in the manual (because they want you to use their own product) and my concern is whether using full strength solution for this experiment will mess up the pump. Anyone else have any advice? Thanks again...

    pressure washer advice

I just bought a small pressure washer, a Ryobi 1700 psi. Of course the manual advises to use only detergents designed specifically for this purpose, and of course, they are pricey. I have some "Buckeye" brand "Straight-Up" which is a neutral pH cleaner purchased from a janitorial supply store...

    Vinyl Kitchen Flooring

When I posted my reply I was surprised Nestor hadn't clocked in with the definitive answer and now that he has, I realize that it was because of the different time zone. Once again, Nestor rules! Holly

    Vinyl Kitchen Flooring

Hello, 4x4. I am about as ignorant as anyone regarding building materials, but a quick Google search leads me to believe that the LVP product is offered in earthy sorts of finishes like wood, marble and stone. It appears to come in the "plank" shape as well as in tiles. I didn't check what the...

    Vinyl Kitchen Flooring

Once again, thank you, Nestor. I now have 6 coats of Shinekeeper down and it is looking really good - except that with each coat I have managed to make a booboo somewhere. That's my incentive to add another coat...You'd think this would be a piece of cake - just spread the stuff with the mop...

    Vinyl Kitchen Flooring

Ah Nestor... I should have asked your opinion before I started, but all of a sudden there was the damn floor and I had to do something about it! I did not realize that the sealant worked as a polish - I thought it acted as a penetrant to somehow overcome the porosity of the tile. Oh well...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

...you see what I mean... that ain't no gentleman, and I have (thanks to your timely warning) taken up residence in my basement bunker. (that's where the wine and whisky barrels are kept, there's an amazing old cast iron woodstove,a deepfreeze stocked with Haagen Dasz and I have my...

    Vinyl Kitchen Flooring

I just laid a black and white checkerboard design commercial grade VCT floor in my kitchen. I had purchased the commercial stripper, sealer and polish to properly apply the initial protective layer(s). I wanted to ensure I was doing these steps properly, so checked Armstrong Flooring's...

    Carpet or Hardwood Floor

Here's my two bits worth... You can make a dirty carpet look clean, but you can't get away with that on a wood floor. I wouldn't use carpet in my house - it's just a dirt trap. Consider the fact that pesticides, herbicides etc. linger forever - we track them in on our shoes. Babies crawl...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

Dammit, Wuzzat! Now my CSIS disguise is out of the bag! At least that photo doesn't show my gigantic rhinestone Elvis belt buckle, so I may not have to go into hiding. By the way, my tub wasn't recoated on site - it was "professionally" done in a shop.

    Missed a golden opportunity

Apparently everyone has forgotten that when it comes to snowfall and temperature, elevation is a crucial element. We have MOUNTAINS here on the coast. And once you are a few kilometers (miles) inland from the ocean, there is a significant difference in both temp and precipitation. It can be...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

Thanks Wuzzat and Bud for the info. Here's the rub: there's no way in hell I'm going to wrestle that tub outside ever again, let alone on a regular basis to recoat it myself. It's a bit beyond the point where I can do the "PorcaFix" patch job and get away with it. What confounds me is how...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

Thank you all for the depressing answers to my problem. I will now embark on a search for a 5' clawfoot tub that has not been reglazed. While it may not have that blinding sheen, it also won't fall to pieces. I don't understand how with the technology available to us, a serviceable coating...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

Well it sounds as if I have my answer.. and that is that this lovely old tub will be the bane of my existence and require regular upkeep. I have been meticulous in caring for it and yet it is sprouting little spidery cracks that eventually end up with a bare center. I shall live with it...

re-glazed clawfoot tub chipping - help!

Three years ago I bought a re-glazed clawfoot tub when I re-built my bathroom. It looked fabulous. For about 6 months... Little dings appeared at first and now in the last 6 months they are sprouting like weeds. They are all on the bottom and up the first 6" up. We don't bang anything...

    Hello to all

Welcome, howlnmad! I'm brand new here myself and I've already discovered a wealth of information and best of all, that people really do like to help one another. (or show how smart they are... in the nicest of ways!) I hope you treat that old house with love and care and keep everything...

    Kitchen Organizing 101

You are so correct when you say that varied lighting sources are a great idea in a kitchen. Kitchens seem to have become the living rooms of the past. Living rooms are for polite company, and I never get any of that! I have two 150 watt ceiling fixtures and undercounter spots, as well as a...

    Missed a golden opportunity

ummm.... Nestor, I know it's cold in the "Peg", but you do know that streaking means bare nekkid! That dude is a poser with his nasty beige gonch! You could have easily one-upped him by actually streaking! Mind you, he doesn't appear to be hiding anything anyway - he ought to check out the...
