    Furnace or Thermostat problem?

Kok328- right on. You're right. there is a white and a red both within white insulation, which I peeled back, but didn't see any additional wire. Looks like I'll have to run a new one, but I'm heading down to check out the furnace end of things first. This is a new therm, because the old dial...

    Furnace or Thermostat problem?

Thanks, I think your on to something. Looking at the Thermostat, there is only one white wire coming in and it's connected to the W terminal on the Therm. There is no fan wire, not quite sure where that leaves me, do I have to run a additional wire from the furnace to the Therm?

    Furnace or Thermostat problem?

I have a 2 year old Bryant 90 gas furnace and the thing works like a champ in heat mode. Problem is, when I switch it over to fan either auto or on modes, nothing happens. I have a raging wood stove fire and want to circulate the heat, but can't because I have no fan mode. Are there different...

New outlet for Garage Door Opener

Howdy y'all. I am getting ready to install a new outlet for a new garage door opener in a garage and hope the expert and very helpful members of this forum can advise me. My garage is unfinished (no drywall) with no plans to finish it. It currently only has one outlet, I need to install more...

    Shower/tub tile repair advice

travelover- Thanks for the response. The tub liner is not plastic.....seems to be metal with porcelain over it. I understand that there could be motion, so the joint needs to flex - I wonder how my last tub/shower was able to be grouted all the way down to tub surface? Thanks for the tip!

    Shower/tub tile repair advice

Hey all you DIYers! If you have been watching the news, you know that the new Ice Age is upon us here in Portland, OR. And since our travel plans are canceled and we have been snowed in, it's time to combat cabin fever with some of those projects that have been festering. Like this one - PO...

    25" Interior Doors

I have two 25" wide interior doors that I would like to replace, mainly because they are hollow and don't provide much sound insulation. I am quickly discovering that a 25" wide door is a anomaly and am considering building on from scratch. I don't have a extensive work shop, no table saw...

    Purpose of Black Box?

Wow I am right? Sweet! Thanks for the confirmation.

    Purpose of Black Box?

I have a gas furnace which the previous owner had the condensate drain tube run outside instead of to the drain in the basement, which is great in the winter, because sometimes the end of the tube freezes and keeps the furnace from lighting until it is cleared out. I have already received...

    Insulating exterior floor?

Good point, kok328, thanks. Is there a standard thickness of exterior grade plywood that should be used on something like this? Or is it whatever fits?

    Insulating exterior floor?

Thanks. This cantilever actually comes out over a recessed basement window and cement. I have thought about sealing the whole thing up, but since it is the only window in the basement I haven't wanted to get rid of the only natural light source. The window well actually makes it easier to work...

    Insulating exterior floor?

Thanks Toolguy for your detailed response and for summing up my floor in one word. I have already found some resources online using your terminology. A bit to chilly to attempt this project now, but I appreciate the insight. Once again this forum proves its importance. Thanks!

    Insulating exterior floor?

I know I am not going to do a great job explaining this one, but here goes. In my living room is a small window alcove (5 ft X 3 ft) - meaning the floor of this alcove hangs out over the foundation. So outside, it pops out of the house -follow me? Meaning the floor hangs out roughly 2-3 ft from...

    Crawlspace questions

Glenn, funny u mention that. I do currently have to access points from the unfinished part of the basement (just cement and clean enough to house h2o heater and furnace) to two separate crawl spaces. From your post, it sounds like I need to install some sort of door or something? Is this mainly...

    Crawlspace questions

Thanks both of you for your suggestions. My buddy came over the other day who I had asked about this, and his first words were "That's not a hole!" After reading your replies, I guess my description was off a bit. It is more of a trench from the access "window" into the crawlspace all the way to...

    Crawlspace questions

Hey everyone. I have searched and not found the exact answer, so I shall post. In my 1909 farmhouse, I have a musty basement. No obvious water intrusion, but the smell is certainly there. We have not cleaned it since we moved in 3 weeks ago, so I will try the bleach and water rub down, then...

    Noob

Howdy all. I am glad I stumbled onto this resource. I just purchased a 1909 farmhouse with partial finished basement and crawlspace and my wife is continually complaining about "that musty smell coming from the basement!" Oh well, time to read some posts on moisture barriers. Thanks...
