I looked at your site. I couldn't afford any of those but the Bogner Inn is my favorite. Well done!

    Dead tree okay for treehouse?

heheh...thanks Glenn. It's kinda like, I have a million other more pressing projects and my kid is only 10 months but it seems like such fun to build. Anyway, that seals it. I'll send pics..:)

    Dead tree okay for treehouse?

I have a dead avocado tree (long sad story-overpruned) in my back yard. I was thinking that a tree house would be nice so the tree isn't a total loss but I dont know how kosher it is to build in a tree that's dead. The trunk is about 18 inches. It's plenty strong now but I don't know if...

1-800 GOT JUNK is a rip off

thx glenn, Yes, I've already used something like that (they called it a lowboy) since my little episode. I would have ordered one ahead of time but it was one of those jobs that snuck up on me. First I was going to cut some brush back on the house then it was some old siding, beat up...

1-800 GOT JUNK is a rip off

Thanks for the comments. ripoffreport.com looks pretty good but their search engine stalled my computer somehow. I'll checkem out later. Yeah, had the guys actually finished the job I wouldn't have been so upset. I could see how the company could help some people but it's an awful lot to...

    Vents I can't decipher

ahhh, radiant heat. That would be nice. And the small smoke test is a great idea. Thank you very much. Because of how the fireplace was built I cant look up the flue but maybe I can solve the mystery with a pack of Camel filters..:) tx again oc

1-800 GOT JUNK is a rip off

I had about 2 or 3 trucks full of junk. (Ford Ranger) I booked on online appointment with 1 800 got junk. I normally just take it to the dump myself but I was busy and in a hurry. They showed up ontime. Nice clean truck. One clean cut guy and one hippie sorta guy with a Indian choker thing...

    Vents I can't decipher

Yeah, I think something like that is possible. The upstairs has been remodeled so I suppose whoever did the upgrade may have saw the vents and just left them there. The vents come through drywall now. I was hoping someone might know before I start sawing holes in the wall just to find out...

    Vents I can't decipher

I have three circular cast iron vents in my upstairs bedrooms (one in each room) that I can't quite figure out. They seem to be placed where the chimney comes up through the house but Im not sure if they are actually connected somehow. (The fireplace is downstairs.) It seems strange that the...

What is involved with installing stove/bathroom vents?

Venting and HVAC isn't my thing but if your drilling through cinder blocks its best to use an abrasive hole saw rather than a percussion drill / bit. When you use a percussion bit, you'll most likely bust out an ugly hole. I don't know how to link yet but here ya go...

Need input on Jacking up house

Yes, that's gonna be a hard one. I suppose if your lifting it, you might as well lift it high enough to get under the house. Then you could get at those joists a little better. It's just my personal taste but I don't like to sister with bigger lumber than the original. I would sister both...

    Hi I'm Oilcan

ugh..yeah, I was afraid of that. My wife keeps telling me just to put sheet rock up but that makes me...you know...stubborn. I think I'll take a crack at replastering before I go with sheetrock. There are few areas where the house was redone with drywall but in this particular area (dining...

    how can i untwist 4x4s

I've straightened out 4x8s the same way Craig did but instead of water I used Terminix. It's oil based and seem to soak in better. (I tried water too) It worked for the most part but on areas where the beams were warped towards the end, the wood just split as I tried to twist them.

    Hi I'm Oilcan

I have a Craftsman home built in 1907 and could use some advice. Like for example: I just leveled my home and repaired the foundation but there are cracks all over my lath and plaster. Actually, more than just cracks. Whole areas that the plaster just fell off. My first question is...

Need input on Jacking up house

I have a two story house built in 1907. Quotes to repair the foundation were in the 20k to 30k range 5 years ago and have since doubled. So, I decided to do it myself. I worked on the project over 3 summers and here's my advice. You can easily work on the house over time but when you...
