I want to add switches to three outlets that are tied together

Actually, this isn't in a wall but rather in a long metal "power strip"... the kind where you have 9 single outlets in a row (but no surge protector). I want each bank of three outlets to be switched separately so I opened the back, added two hot lines as described in the diagram, and ran...

I want to add switches to three outlets that are tied together

I have three outlets on the same circuit. Currently they are wired in series where the line hops from one outlet to the next, as does the neutral and the ground. I want to have each outlet switched separately. I *think* I can simply rewire the line side (the hot side) so that each receptacle...

Gas water heater seems to be failing

I have a 30 Gal kenmore gas water heater from 1981. It is supplying less and less hot water all the time (the water can start out hot, but almost immediately gets warm, then cool... I can barely make it through a shower now). Although it may be a coincidence, it seemed to start getting bad...

Can I have outlets and overhead on same circuit...

It occurs to me that I never thanked you guys for the info. So.... thanks! I ran a circuit (well... 12-2 wire really - nothing is hooked up) to each bedroom in preparation for the day when I actually get around to rewiring them (they are currently still served by the house's old wiring...

Can I have outlets and overhead on same circuit...

In a bedroom? I rewired my kitchen and one thing has led to another... turns out the kitchen outlets, the two kitchen overhead lights, the hallway light, and one full bedroom were on a single circuit. Now that the kitchen has been separated into its seven or so circuits, I have to reconnect...

Skim coating over "knock down" texture?

Hey guys, Thanks for all your input. I'm still stuck doing some additional (and unexpected) electrical work at the moment, but once I am done it's on to the walls. crewguy, thanks for your input. I think I will take your advice and lay the 1/4 sheetrock on top of the existing ceiling.

Skim coating over "knock down" texture?

Thanks for the quick reply. I used the powdered stuff when I did it but I don't know if it was the fast-set stuff or not (I suspect not). I was also fairly inconsistent when adding water. In fact, I think I recall adding a fair bit of water to make it easier to spread. Is there anything else...

    Replacing a subfloor

Ok, So I never actually got the time lapse thing going (just too busy and I wanted to get started on the floor). I have managed to get the existing flooring off and was lucky... the plywood underlayment was not glued down. So that means I do not have to replace the whole subfloor. Woo...

Skim coating over "knock down" texture?

Hi there, I did a search but I cannot seem to find anyone who has asked this question. Pardons if it is plastered (no pun intended) all over the place. I have drywall with what I think is called "knock down" texture all over the surface. I used joint compound on one room to smooth it...

    Replacing a subfloor

InspectorD, Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions! I really appreciate it. I'm getting fiber strand bamboo floors from teragren. They emailed me today and ostensibly included installation instructions - only they forgot to actually include the instructions :)...

    Replacing a subfloor

Hello all, I am about to remove a tiled kitchen floor which is over 3/4 plywood which is on top of the original 1 x 10 (3/4" x 9.5") diagonal plank subfloor. I am not sure if the plywood is glued to the subfloor, but I am willing to bet it is. This may make is necessary to replace the...

    Hi There from Oakland CA

Hello, Just starting out on a massive (to me) kitchen remodel. Thought I'd say HI and get in a preemptive "thanks" before I start asking all sorts of questions. Hopefully I can even answer someone else's questions (though we'd have better luck if you were asking about computers)...
