Can I take down just the small part of the water damaged ceiling and replace with another material - but not the entire framework/wood framing? Please see photos attached.

I personally would take it all down assuming the roof leak has been repaired. I would then put up half-inch drywall tape-mud-sand seams and screw holes prime and paint.



Yes you can likely still get those tiles and replace the section that is bad or attach any other type of ceiling you like.

The strips look fine and if they are tight I would leave them, maybe add more if doing drywall and they don’t line up where you need them.
