Garage Smell

How to I keep from my garage starting to take on that old tools and oil typical garage smell? My wife is complaining that the laundry room that opens up to the garage is starting to take on that garage smell too.
I'm not really a big fan of smelling it all day when I work out there either.

Wash absolutely everything with degreaser - tools, shelves, toolboxes, floors, walls, etc... Or install a big ventillation fan that blows all the smells out of the garage.

Everything can hold up to degreaser? Anything that decreaser shouldn't be used on?
