Our kitchen a laminate that is meant to look like tiles. It has several spots where the lock tabs are broken so it doesn't stay together. The gamble comes in because there are 3/4" hardwoods under it but. I'm unsure of
the condition.

Would it be worth the time to remove the laminate and take a chance on the hardwoods?

It's anyone's guess on what that old floor looks like.
Laminiate was just a bad idea in a kitchen.

Its best to remove the laminate, and if the hardwood underneath is in OK condition sand and refinish it.

Probably not a good idea to repair the laminate, so take it up. If the hardwood is not in good shape, you would have to re-cover with something anyway. Maybe vinyl planks...
