We have been living in our house for about a year and a half now, and when we bought it we were told that the roof was fairly new. After two Michigan winters our roof didn't hold up to well. I wanted to know if there was a way to find out who last did work to the roof, and what is the likelihood of getting warranty work done on it.

You could start with your local permits office, if permits were required and pulled the contractor should be on file with the permit.

How is it failing? Ice dams?

Any warranty usually only goes to the original purchaser unless expressed otherwise by contract or law.

Absent the above, you probably are out of luck unless the roofing company voluntarily takes care of any problem.

Even a "lifetime" roofing product that some companies sell require certain procedures in order to transfer the warranty to subsequent home buyers.

As far as finding out who did the work, the previous homeowner would be the best bet and as mentioned, maybe the AHJ.
