Hey everyone,
Hoping to get some advice on best method to install brick/stone veneer.

Want to install masonry veneer over partial sides of home (~200sq ft each side). Part of wall is stepped poured concrete and part is vinyl over sheathing and frame.

I know how to install the veneer over sheathing and over concrete but unsure of how to handle the transition between sheathing/concrete and want to avoid any expansion cracks in the finished wall at the transitions.

No code book can point me in the right direction here as a method to prevent expansion cracks.

My gut tells me the following;

When waterproofing and applying lathe to the sheathing I need to extend the waterproofing and lathe over the transition a certain amount (maybe 2-3ft?). After scratch coat this should provide a continuous surface that “in theory” should prevent expansion cracks.

Just not sure if this is the only and best method to approach this or if someone knows of a better solution.

See pic of walls. Code is 2018 International Residential

Thanks,
S
