Looking for advice on propoer placement and suppport for railing posts. lots of info on the internet put none give a preference of posts being inside or outside joists or which way is stronger. I'm using 2x8's.
My situation is out of the norm in that I am building a pool deck that is partially on ground level so the railings to meet code have to be 48" so my railing posts are longer than normal. I need them to be as strong as possible. I do plan to do blocking and/or use the Simpson DTT tie brackets (or both).
I'm not concerned about the asthetics so would inside the joist placement be stronger or doesn't it really matter with proper blocking?
Thanks in advance for any advice given! Dave
