Solar Screen Usefulness

The townhouse I bought has solar screens, which I guess is a good thing since I'm in Southern Nevada. But I was wondering if they serve any purpose other than reducing the sun's intensity when it's directly on the windows. I mean, do they have any actual insulation properties?

The reason I ask is I have two windows at the back of my house they are shaded by a covered patio that had its own shade on it. The screen interfere with the view, and I'd like to put a hummingbird feed on one window with suctions cups. I was wondering if there is any other reason I should leave the screens in place if they don't get direct sun. I have a couple of other windows I would remove them from except they provide some privacy. But I don't need that in the back. Attached is a pic from the inside looking out so you can see the patio shade.
