    Installing tongue and groove planks

I just did this with my 3 season porch. I white-washed the boards before installing as I didn't want to be finishing over my head. Additionally, if you are going to install recessed lighting, it is easier to have the boards finished when cutting. I still have to trim round the ceiling and...

What comes first? Appliances or Cabinets?

Like the title says...Do I install my appliances prior to the cabinet team installing the cabinets, or wait until after? There will be fills around the stove and the fridge will have side panels.

    Bathroom remodel-task list

Since I documented all the items in my remodel, I figured I would share with anyone who may want it. Your prices may vary, as well as the quantities. Hopefully it will help someone. When you unzip it, it is an excel spreadsheet.

So I finish my bathroom remodel today...

Well, you can see the size of mine. I spent about $2400 but my tiling labor was free (daughter's SO is a tile layer on layoff). I figure the labor for that is worth about $2000 which puts me at about $4400 all in. I caught the tile on sale, as well as many of the other supplies, and then...

So I finish my bathroom remodel today...

I got the vanity in and plumbed, toilet set and hooked up and the shower fixture/cartridge installed. YAY! All tested good with no leaks, however..I turn on the shower and get no hot water. Hmmm...I know we turned on both valves. I check the shut-offs on the valve body, yup both on. WTF? As it...

How to straighten drain pipe in shower?

We did. Concrete pre-slope, pan liner locked into drain, then final slope. Never said we only used concrete.

Rattling noise coming from furnace blower

I had the same thing and it was the draft inducer fan. Easy to replace and took care of the problem. I paid about $100 for online parts and about 30 minutes of my time. Here is a link about draft inducers...

Thanks, guys! Got the repair done and my tile guy built the pan and curb. The caulder fitting worked like a charm. Now the tile can start to be laid. Of course, I forgot to take pictures...DOH!

During the week I carry a Spyderco Chaparral and on the weekends or when working around the house it s a Boker Klanashlov AK-47, which is my beater knife. Really tough keeps an edge and even took a drop onto concrete on the tip last week. no damage. What are you carrying?

How to straighten drain pipe in shower?

Sorry, cast iron. As it ends up, the angle doesn't seem too severe with the bit of play in the drain assembly. I did speak with one plumber who wanted to break up the concrete all the way to the floor drain in the laundry, meaning walls would come down and re-do everything. Not happening. I may...
