Good day everyone!! I installed a toilet last year in a bathroom we were redoing and it was time for me to tackle the downstairs one. It doesn't flush right, is probably as old as the house and since we have hard water, I doubt anything can get out. Plus adding a comfort height would be nice for when the in-laws come....the nicest I can try to be! I did something stupid and assumed it was the same rough in as the toilet above, they share the same stack. I ordered a 12" rough in, it was delivered, I went back to check because with my luck it would be a 10". Low and behold it's neither a 10" nor a 12".

The picture you are seeing is an 1/8" less because I left the tape on the ground to measure and didn't go all the way to the wall.

The question I have is this, will the 12" rough or do I need something different?

The 12" will fit just fine, however is the new WC a rite height, or a standard height?
 
It’s probably standard to the house when they built it back in the 50’s. I figured I’m going to need a new line since the tank is now higher than the old one.
 
You had said that you had ordered a new 12" rough-in, so was it a rite height or a standard height?

A rite height finished is 17" above the floor and a standard height is 14" above the floor.

If it is the latter there are platforms commercially available to raise the WC to a rite height level, precluding replacing the WC.

If you are changing the flex line to the tank, consider also changing the angle stop to a 1/4 turn ball valve.

Don’t have the seat yet! I’m sure it will go over 18”

Doesn’t hurt to change the valve either, I had that problem with my hot water heater heater!
 
To answer the question if the rough-in is more than 12" then the 12" will still work perfectly, you just have to be comfortable with a potential gap behind the toilet. I mean technically you could install a toilet with a 32" rough-in if you want your "throne" to be in the center of your "court."
