IMG_9331.JPG Hey guys. So my dryer has the typical vent hose laying there between it and the wall, then it connects to another run about 3ft long (box structure in pic) that's in the garage before going out to the outside vent. I was thinking about cutting one side of this box open and creating a hindged door flap type deal so I can get to the portion of vent hose that's inside of it for better inspection and future replacement. Any thoughts on this?

The box was created to support the required firewall between the garage and the living space, you should be able to remove it and use metal 4" pipe for the dryer vent.

Thinking it might be Ok if the door flap is sealed airtight and made of a fire rated material if not the existing drywall piece.

That magVent thing looks awesome! But not sure how I could incorporate in into my setup. Inside that wall box thing is some stiff flex duct. I think they built that box there just to conceal the 2nd portion of flex duct that leads to the outside vent hole. Thinking about just cutting the bottom out and leaving it open, install all 4" metal vent with the magVent apparatus behind the dryer.

The MagVent looks fantastic. I'd need the 180 model instead but what a slick solution to the challenge of getting behind a dryer to make the connection when there isn't any room between the wall and the side of the dryer. Mine pair has added fun because I have a front-loader washing machine that weighs a ton, sitting in a drain pan. So sliding it in and out is not going to happen.

You do away with the box and use hard pipe to the spot where the magnet goes.
