Our kitchen sink stopped draining. No amount of lye, Draino, etc. helped. When we unhooked things underneath, we saw nothing so followed the line to the basement. I unscrewed a small round plug on the side of the pvc pipe and a gusher of dirty water fell out. After reconnecting it and replacing the p trap, the sink still doesn’t drain. I’m again draining the basement line and think the issue must be between there and the sink. Should I just buy an augur and run it up from the basement opening? If not, what can I do?

Thank you so, so much!

Given the amount of chemicals you've dumped into the system, I hope you are using some quality protective gloves.

The material draining when the plug in the basement is removed, indicate that the obstruction is not above that location, but further down the line. So you can rent an auger, or hire it done.

That drain cleaner gushing out can burn you or blind you.

As Snoonyb says, the blockage is obviously somewhere downstream of the cleanout plug you opened.

You have to snake from the cleanout towards the main sewer, whether it is at the street or a septic field.

We diluted the line enough to not get hurt.
Will snake away. Thanks!
