As if having a problem with one vehicle wasn't enough, either the alternator or A/C compressor is going out on my minivan. I can hear bearing noise. I put a screwdriver on the alternator to listen through and it sounds rough, but the compressor quit working about the time the noise started. I have grass to cut tomorrow, then to pull the serpentine belt and turn the pulleys by hand.

Probably the AC clutch, mine did that yesterday. On an old toyota I had it did that and I bought a couple years out of it spraying it with WD40 every week.

My A/C clutch seized on my truck that tows the boat at Havasu. I happen to be inside at the time while the engine was running and I hear people screaming "fire!" I shut off the engine and the smoke subsided.

I have replaced clutch bearing on a 1996 Chevy Lumina . It made noise when the A/C was off . Noise disappeared when the A/C was on .

Time consuming but the bearing was not too $$$ .
