back feed panel

I want to hook up my generator to my panel for use during storms.

what do i need to do to do it correctly?

can i simply. hook up to the panel, and use the main breaker

to stop back feeding the main line to pole?

i want to hook up,,fridge, freezer, few lights

my fridge and freezer are separate circuits
lights are separate circuits by rooms, i only need 1 room

There are two options.
1. A transfer switch. Could be for the whole panel or just for certain predetermined circuits.
2. Interlock kit. Allows the whole panel to be fed. It uses a double pole breaker to back feed the panel. It has an interlock mechanism installed so that the main breaker and the generator breaker can not be on at the same time.
