We have sediment in our water that filtration cannot collect it all.
Our toilet sometimes runs due to sediment collecting in the tank. I have been draining the tank and wiping the flapper and where it seats. Is there a better method of cleaning?

Turn off the valve to the toilet, then flush the toilet. Then suck out the rest with a shop vacuum. It gets rid of all the crud that settles in there.

When ever I watch a TV home improvement show and I see them bailing out the tank and toilet bowl I'm always thinking, just use your shop vac. The water is "clean-ish" and it sure beats slopping water around as you haul the toilet out. If I need to pull a toilet I'll flush it, then quickly pour a bucket of water down the bowl to drain it out as much as possible and then bring out the shop vac and suck the rest out.

It is amazing how much water leaves the bowl with a quick dump of a gallon of water down the bowl.
