Hello,

I just purchased my first house! Sunnyside Queens, NYC. VERY EXCITING!
Very strange, and frankly a bit scary.

It is a rowhouse built in 1927... so if this forum is responsive i'll probably be on here often... ha!

My first question is in regards to the heating. It is Gas Heating with radiators, two on the first floor and one in each bedroom (two bedrooms) and one in the bathroom.

It is a Weil McLain model EG 35 boiler, a steam boiler with standing pilot light. Frankly, I do not even know how to turn the thing on.

I do not know how to "balance my radiators"... i could guess (turning the knobs on the actual radiator to tighten the valve for hot water circulation)

I do not know how to control water flow...

I do not know how to make sure i'm not going to burn the house down!

I got it inspected. The inspector says it is in decent to good condition.

Is there a manual for basic use?

Is there a method for efficient operating? Is a nest thermostat worth it with this type of heating?

Thanks for any/all advice!

Richard
