What makes the concrete on the interstates so much stronger than regular concrete? Thx
 
In general the strength of concrete is in direct proportion of how much Portland cement is in the mix compared to how much WATER is used to mix it.

Some mixes have additional admixtures added to them to enhance certain qualities. such as in northern states there are additives to aid in resistance to road salt.
 
It is also poured very thick. Here in CA it is about 10 inches and I here alot of places go to 12 inches.
 
here in NY, they rarely do concrete because of the freeze thaw. But when they do, it is easily 12-14" thick.

And what makes the concrete stronger, simple, stronger additives and mix. It is all chemistry.
