Unfortunately I dropped my dial indicator. The pin moves fine but the dial is not working at all. I brought it to the local parts store and they told me that they could send it off repair but I'm afraid it will never be the same. Would my best best be to just buy another one?

If it is a major name brand, and in excellent condition, it might be worth repairing... otherwise just get a new one. If it's Harbor Freight (or whatever cheap import brand you like), don't even consider paying to have it repaired, especially since they're only 7 bucks new. You could also try repairing it yourself - could just be a gear got bent out of alignment from the impact, and just needs to be tweaked back horizontal.
