hello all, redoing my bathroom and framing a half wall for the shower stall. when I push on it laterally, it moves slightly. is this normal?. after I install the drywall will the wall be more rigid? thanks
Your best bet is to use a post at the end that goes to the ceiling. There are things you can do but the leverage of a body leaning on a wall is hard to beat. One way is to drop the end double studs thru the floor and block and bolt them to the floor joists.
Perhaps you could get a some sort of angle braket made and hidden under or behind tile. I would think it would have to reach a floor joist to screw to and high enough to add real support, do inside and out.
You can also go with a simpson DTT2Z bracket with a carriage bolt and nuts with washers. I would try to get a piece of wood underneath on the flat of the plywood if you can fit it.
Anything you can do with a bit of hardware and some construction adheasive will be better than nothing.
