You can special order the one piece molding, so you don't have a seam, but they are pricy.
 
That trim is solid vinyl, and as such needs space to expand. If cut flush, it WILL buckle with the summer heat. When I have installed this I install top piece first, leaving 1/8" on each end. Then the sides with 1/4" at bottom, flush to the top. Vinyl trim is great except for the expansion factor.
 
The trim is only hanging from some flimsy nails, which might not even have hit anything solid to anchor into.

Add a few stainless screws near the ends.

Drill pilot holes first, and you can feel if you are hitting good wood, or are just drilling into thin garbage.

Also, in winter, the trim can freeze to the garage door, and when the door is operated it can yank the trim loose.
 
If that header is made up of ganged up 2X's it's possable the nails all in a row like that are just hitting the space between the boards so they have no holding power.
