I have a bathtub that is separate from the shower (i.e. stand-alone bathtub in one location, stand-alone shower in a different location). I've noticed over the past month or so that the tub faucet leaks pretty steadily about 1 gal every 4.5 hrs. It seems to stop when I turn the tub faucet valve on and then off again. But then later, when someone takes a shower, the tub faucet seems to start leaking again.

1.) Why would using a shower in one location cause the tub faucet in another location to leak?

2.) Why does turning the tub faucet full-on and then off again seem to stop the leak temporarily?

3.) What should I do to troubleshoot/fix the leak?

Thanks,
Daniel

The difference in water pressure, and the solution is to overhaul the shower valve, for which there are kits available from your local hrdw. vendors.
