Hi Guys!
I have a really dumb question that I know I can dig around for but you guys are always so helpful. Having a blonde moment.
So my microwave is dead.
It's a GE JVM3160RF5SS. according to google it is:
  • Dimensions: 29.87" W x 15.25" D x 16.5" H | Net Weight: 63.0 lb
I haven't removed it yet but I see 2 screws in the shelf above it so it must have some bracket between.
questions are:
If I buy a new microwave- are the brackets sort of standard? Do you think I'll need to drill more holes into my cabinet or are microwaves typically all using same bracket system? Any tips for installing?
Also do you know of a good reliable Over-the-Range microwave this size? One that will last?
I know I can try and google all that but...thought i would see if anyone has any experience.

Thanks so much

Shannon

Well, you'll be lucky if you find a replacement with the holes in the cabinet, in the same location. Those 2 screws are actually threaded into the appliance and support the appliance.

Some have a similar to yours installation, and there are some that have a bracket that the appliance slides on to.

If your appliance presently exhausts to the exterior,
recommended for gas fired ranges, that will just need reconnecting, and some quality duct tape.

You can research the installation instructions of an appliance, to see what's in-store for you and your assistant.

Over-the-range microwaves usually come with a mounting bracket that is designed to fit a range of standard cabinet sizes. However, it's not always a guarantee that the bracket will be compatible with your existing setup.
While many microwaves use a standard bracket system, there might be cases where you need to drill new holes to align the bracket with your existing cabinet configuration.
