With the attached pictures. We are planning on taking the door away and the wall to the left of the door. This is an addition that was added to the house almost 20 years ago. I think I need to a header to that half but unsure on how to go about it.
Thanks for any advised you may give!

Who ever did this work, did not permit it, so, unless you want to open a can of worms, do not permit your repairs.

Is the white plate, above the door, partially exposed, metal?

What ar your plans for the plug circuit?

Please describe the roof structure above this wall.

Are there ceiling joist resting on the top plate above the dbl. top plate of the doorway?

the white part is just drywall. Not metal.

where the top of the door is - is the ceiling of the room behind it. It steps down into the laundry room.

The electrical cables are going to be rerouted.
Attached photo is the top side of the roof. It was an addition built in ‘95. I’m not sure the layout of the roof. This is all new to me.

Thanks.
I see what was done. The photo title block had obscured the view of the step down.

The ceiling joist for the add rest on the dbl. plate above the door, so you'll need a header for those, and you'll need to open the ceiling on then add., about 16" to install and fasten joist hangers.

You'll also need to build a temp. support wall in the add. to support the ceiling.

Were it I, I would remove the entire wall and install a header the full length and add in what wall configuration was needed, because you need to protect folks from falling off the difference in heights.

Clears off some more drywall from
That area to get a clearer picture. Still going to be a hell of a project to fix the mess up they did when they first built this addition.

Thanks.
It now appears that you will also need to build a temp. wall to support the ceiling and roof structure, at the higher/ main floor level.

You'll also need to re-run the plug circuit, on the adjacent wall, because the header will affect it's existing run.
