Bathroom remodel? Shed build? Solar? Post your latest project photos here.

I am a commercial plumber working on two hospital projects in Winston-Salem NC. One is a ground up 7 story addition to Wake Forest Hospital - The other is a mechanical room overhaul of Forsyth Memorial Hospital.

The Wake Forrest ground up facility takes the place of a demolished parking deck and adjoins two buildings. A nice feature of this project is the MEP racks prefabricated off site for the MEP contractors to cooperatively install atop the main corridors. We will then install the med gas piping to the underside of the racks. Existing building prep is completed and we will begin installing 16” hub cast iron underground storm & sanitary next Monday.

The Forsyth Memorial mechanical room equipment mostly dates to 1960’s & is where I was working today - replacing old underground sanitary with new ExHeavy service weight cast - mostly for new floor drains. We have temporarily rerouted existing sanitary stacks with PVC until the new underground is inspected and ready.

My wife wanted me to build a wall to enclose our combined kitchen/dining room from the living room, a big reason was we spend more time at the dining room table (have my laptop there) and she figured it would save energy costs to use a small electric space heater (and window air conditioner in the summer) to heat/cool that area instead of heating/cooling areas of the house we might not spend as much time in. ....and it works !

It was also my wife's idea for me to make a double frame with the 2x4s to have some shelf area on the dining room side of the wall. We bought a bi-fold door and I used peel and stick weather stripping where needed for a better seal.

Also included a couple pictures of an older project where I used PVC piping and chicken wire to enclose a garden area to keep the deer out. It might not look super professional but it works :) The ground has a lot of clay so I opted to do container gardening using 5 gallon buckets. One picture was during the off season and has some weeds needing cleared out, the other picture is a later one after clearing the ground and getting the buckets ready for planting. (edit to add: I needed to add some extra PVC across the top sides for an added deterrent to deer being tempted to try to jump over the chicken wire, I wanted something more visible than just extra chicken wire on the top so as to be more easily visible to them at night)

We collect the corks from wine bottles, and have filled yet another container of them. We received a 3 wine box set for Christmas, so I decided to add to our collection. I've taken a pic of last year's shadow box cork collector, and here is how I converted this box wine set into another cork holder box, just by adding a piece of plexiglass and drilling a hole at the top and adding felt pads to stop wall scratches and adding a picture hanging hardware.

In addition to the architectural sheet metal work, I make wall art and furniture with copper that I've applied a patina finish to. Check it out:

I'm slowly getting my basement project done. I got the walls of the shower tiled, need to do the shower floor and last row between the floor and the wall tiles. Also tile the bathroom floor with the same tile as the wall. I'm done with the painting and electrical. Yesterday, I put in the toilet flange and filled the gap between the basement floor and the toilet drain pipe to prepare for tiling next weekend. Next big expense is 800 or so square feet of LVP flooring, and trim. Then I can get my final inspections done.

Ron,it looks like Pop Eeze worked well. I don't have popcorn but have a slight texture that I prolly wouldn't be able to easily match if I had to do ceiling work so I'll keep Pop Eeze in mind.

Good plan and your workmanship is excellent.

Thanks Eddy! One thing about pop corn removal is that if the texture has been painted, the Pop Eeze doesn't work very well. It's because the paint is much harder than the original texture material.

I finished the repair where the wall was taken out and I’m now working on the other end of the room. Before and after pictures of the newly painted section where the wall was taken out.

Now for the rest of the room. I scrapped the remaining popcorn yesterday, removed the ceiling fans and started repairing holes where the ceiling fans used to be.

Ron, I can't help but notice that on the wall you took down, it seems the jack studs were incorrectly installed.

Despite the double top plate, I'm guessing this wasn't a load bearing wall. The double 2x4 above the door was really just a nailer for the door trim. Had it been a load bearing wall, it would have needed a header above the door. Unless I'm missing something else, not sure what you see as a problem.

You're correct. It is not a load bearing wall. It just looked unusual. Doesn't matter, just my perspective.

You’re right! It’s not a load bearing wall and it was installed some time after the house was built. The previous owner (who was the original owner) added on to the house and almost doubled the size of the house. The addition included a large primary bedroom (formerly called a Master). After that they took two of the original bedrooms and made them one by removing the wall between them.

It originally looked like this. All the red walls were removed. The load bearing walls go left to right on the disgram.

After the red walls were removed, a long skinny room was formed. They installed a new wall (the one I removed) at the end of the new space for a closet. It then looked like this.

I removed the closet wall and put the bed at the end where the closet was. My plan is to add a closet like this and a small connected bathroom.

This is the bed in the new position.

Tomorrow, I was start painting the other side of the room.

Finished painting the rest of the room. It is completely painted now.

Ruby had a good point…we should move the new vanity in before building the closet since it would be much harder to get it in there later.

Got the vanity in the space today. I had to remove the counter top because it is granite and made the vanity too heavy to carry as one piece. Carried them in separately and I’ll put it back together tomorrow.
