Screen torn out at gable vent window

I'm hoping this is an easy topic for someone.
The old screen has torn away from the vent at the roof point.

I have tried a staple gun, glue gun, caulk gun to adhere a new cut-to-fit piece as I'm not seeing an easy way to replace the old. I have rescreened sliding doors and window frames using a roller rool, but this old construction does not seem to have that design.

Here are a few from farther back. One from outside, one looking up from inside, and the third from the inside, rafter view. Note the framing hammer for scale from the interior.
The opening is about 1 x 4.5 feet.

Unstable, I'm not familiar with that term. Does that mean to pry the wood away where its pinching the against the metal?

Per your recommendations, I used 2x1 raw pine from home depot.

Stapled in the top line of the screen and pinched it down with two 34 inch sections. Then I used the longer bottom section of wood to pull the screen tighter, followed by screen staples, and then screwed down wood. The bottom bar was nearly wrapped in screen. Not the cleanest, but it should help with the flying ants and termites.

Some species of Termites swarm, in the form of flying ants, so be aware of new piles of sawdust randomly appearing.
