Set screw on tub spout not accessible

I'm trying to remove an old tub spout, but the set screw has moved to the right, and is not accessible through the opening.
I've attached an image (I lightened up the area of the pic so you can see the screw).

I've tried moving the white plastic part with a screw driver, but the whole spout moves.
I'm apprehensive about moving the spout too much, as I may be damaging the copper pipe with the screw pushed into it (because I've spun the spout a few times).

Any ideas on how to get to that screw?

Cut the spout off carefully, in pieces, with a hacksaw or oscillating multitool.
